VETERANS’ MATCH

The original proposal to play a veterans’ match between Wellington and Canterbury, at Wellington, on the clay prior to the Plunket Shield match between the two provinces on December 27, has now been modified, but is still to take place provided Canterbury falls in with the proposed change. At this week’s meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association a report was tabled stating that 15 Wellington oldtimers who had represented the province 25 or more years ago had agreed to take part in the game if selected, but the sub-committee considered that the date chosen was not suitable. Finally it was decided to ask Canterbury to send a team of old-timers to Wellington to play a jubilee match on St. Patrick’s Day. March 17, 1930.
