MOTHERS’ THOUGHT GUILD
FINAL MEETING FOR YEAR The last meeting” for this year of the Mothers’ Thought Guild was held on Tuesday at the residence of Mrs. Hemus, Epsom. Mrs. Hemus, in her introductory remarks on the work and ideals of the guild, stressed the great power of thought. By this power, members strove to create a beautiful atmosphere in their homes. Mrs. Hemus then called upon her sister, Miss Lilian Edger, M.A., to address those present Miss Edger based her remarks on the misapplied and misquoted words of Rudyard Kipling, “East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet.” These words are only part of the context, and while separated as they always are, give a most erroneous conception of what the great poet had in his mind —for he goes on to say that all are one at heart, the only difference lies in birth and breeding, in the outward appearance, but all are one in the innermost self. Miss Edger spoke of the wonderful state of the civilisation of India in 300tJ 8.C., when India was in contact with the Greeks and Romans. India's literature —science and astronomy—was of the highest order.
