Face-Lifting

Admiral Who Had Wrinkles Removed MEDICAL correspondent to an English newspaper called attention to the foll£, and even danger, of women entrusting their good looks, or what remains of them, to “beauty surgeons,” and others who reap a rich harvest from this form of feminine vanity. He declared that, while the ravages of Anno Domini may be stayed by the art of the facial surgeon, the inevitable result is the sagging of the features, the lifting of which has cost so much in skill and money. An interesting communication on this subject has now been issued by a West End plastic surgeon, who claims to have lifted the faces of 10,000 people. He says: “On the average ten women come to me to every man, and although many of these women are wealthy, a large percentage are women such as film and stage actresses, who must necessarily keep their beauty. "Often a slight operation and the tightening of sagging flesh will restore a face to its former beauty and make a woman look ten years younger. .“There are, however, a number of people who call themselves plastic surgeons who are not experienced enough to perform these operations, and their work is often incompetent and does not last. Lasts Ten Years “My experience is that, if properly done, the effect of a ‘lifted’ face should last from five to ten' years. It can last a lifetime. The operation should not be attempted on a ‘fullmoon* face. The average English face, however, can always be ‘lifted.’ ” This plastic surgeon says one of his patients was an admiral whose features were a mass of wrinkles after long service abroad. He returned hoifie to an important post, which necessitated many public functions. “After he had been operated on the admiral looked many years younger, and far more presentable.”
