TRANSPORT FRANCHISE
ONE ELECTOR, ONE VOTE POLL CONDITIONS OUTLINED Under the terms of section 5 of the Auckland Transport Board Act, 1928, an elector in a poll on a vacancy on the board is entitled t'o one vote only. This condition applies in spite of the extent of tho property valuation of an elector. The secretary to the board, Mr. W. St. J. Clarke, who is returning officer in the poll to be held on December i»0 for the No. 3 district representative, made this clear this morning in a statement outlining the conditions of the poll. Mr. Edward Morton, Mayor of Onehunga, is to be a candidate for the position left vacant by the resignation of h:is brother, Mr. F. S. Morton. No. 3 district comprises the borough of Onehunga, the road districts of One Tree Hill, Mount Roskill, Mount Wellington and Panmure township, and the town district of Ellerslie. The closing time for nominations is noon on December 19. Electors at the poll, says Mr. Clarke’s statement, may record their votes at any polling place within the constituency in which they are entitled to vote. In the present election, which affects one constituency—No. 3 district, electors may vote at any booth. In tho election of representatives of the Auckland Hospital Board, the Elec-tric-Power Board, the Harbour Board and in road boards, valuation of property is taken into consideration in deciding the number of votes of an elector. Such a position does not rule in a Transport Board election. Nomination forms are procurable at the board’s office, and candidates must be nominated by two electors of the particular constituency concerned in the election. The candidate must also bo an elector of a district of the constituency. In all districts, the polling hours will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
