ANGORA RABBIT WOOL
GROWERS TACKLE PROBLEM OF MARKETING ORGANISATION SET UP A meeting of Angora rabbit—keepers, held in Auckland yesterday adopted plans for establishing a market for its wool fleece. The convener stated that existing woollen mills were unwilling to manufacture Angora goods, and the market abroad for* the unspun clip was not so attractive as the local prospect. Consideration was therefore given to importing hand-spinning wheels and weaving looms, and the first of these were now on hand. Tho owners of these machines would, when ready, spin and weave for producers at a charge to be yet
fixed, and the* pro-* duct would also bo marketed for them if desired. Very shortly spinning* wheels would be made in Auckland. In addition, a British firm had made a bid for the entire New Zealand output at 29s per ib first grade, conditionally on the paylent being accepted
in tho form of Angora spun or manufactured goods of the same value wholesale for reselling. Local arrangements coLild be made for selling these goods and paying the producers eventually in cash if preferred. A third OLitlefc existed in Ireland on somewhat similar terms. These thi*ee opportunities could be developed at an early date. For the more distant future . a syndicate of expert British spinners now in Auckland; contemplated establishing a power mill for Angora wool when the volume of the clip was sufficient. Tho meeting agreed that all these channels would be mutually helpful and set up a committee to carry out the proposals and develop the local use of Angora apparel. Special mention was made of dress goods, scarves, suitings and singlets as articles of every-day wear, as well as embroidery and knitted goods. It was stated that the fluffiness of the old-style Angora articles was now eliminated, and smooth material of durability, warmth, lightness and exquisite softness had taken its place. A strong feature of the business transacted was the establishment of a local selling organisation for the yarn 01* manufactured goods.
