BEAUTY IN PROFILE

CHINESE DISCOVERY THE SECRET OF POISE When studying a beautiful woman’s face from the side, you get an absolutely correct perspective. The finelymoulded chin, the drooping curve. of the lips, the poise of the head, the contour of the throat—not one of these features can be properly appreciated from any other angle. It is a curious fact that the left side of the face is often better-looking than the right. This discovery was first made by the Chinese, and the truth of it may be verified by examining various types of faces from both sides. Many an actress makes a half-turn to the right when she wishes to impress her audience, because she knows that her left profile is more attractive than the right. A critical examination of the figure from the side is of inestimable value to the woman who is anxious to discover the secret of poise, for it will reveal common faults in standing, sitting, and walking. Is your neck thickening? Have you a sway-back? Have you a roll of fat just below your ribs? Has your body lost all its graceful curves? Where is your waistline most at fault? And oh! those hips! These questions, and dozens of others, you can answer if you study yourself carefully with the aid of a pier-glass and a hand-mirror. And —what is even more important—you can start at once to correct all the faults by various forms of physical exercise. A touch of rouge or a dab of powder may look more or less natural When viewed “head on,” but it will probably create quite a different impression when seen from right or left. Therefore, get a good side view of your make-up before setting out for the theatre or dance.
