Labour Day Trots

OAMARU CLUB’S FINE CARD

Survey of the Fields

There will be a plethora of racing throughout the Dominion on Monday, in which trotting will play a prominent part. With the second day of the Auckland and Greymouth ClUbs’ fixtures in progress and the Oamaru card being decided I ight-harness fans are in for a royal time. A review of the Oamaru meeting by “Abaydos” is appended: In the South the Oamaru Club stages one of the most popular holiday fixtures on the spring trotting calendar, and with the attractive card presented it is not surprising to find high- :lass horses engaged. The good work of the young, handicapper, Mr. Harry Jarden, has been responsible for a large list of acceptors, which should ensure excellent racing and set backers many solid problems. Improvers’ Handicap There are some good improving trotters in the opening event, and two young ones in Wall and Great Nelson will make things interesting for the older brigade. On the 4imit is Bon Boy, one of TV. Lowe’s string, who lias won at his last couple ot' starts. Victor Bingen and Wattle Patch and King Oscar are useful sorts, but the public may require Bon Boy and Great Nelson. Trial Handicap A nice field of improving pacers will contest this heat, including Cushla D’Or, who lias gone very fast for little money this season. In this company she should be capable of giving away the 48 yards she is set to stand up the majority of her opponents. Another Rey do Oro representative in Frances de Oro is on the end, and must bo given a good show. Golden Vale, Petronius, Norwester, John Appear, TVarrenore, Rafa and Le Thorpe are others with prospects, but the favourites will most likely be Cushla O’Or and Frances De Oro. Oamaru Handicap Class is represented in the big race and three New Zealand Cup candidates in Author Jinks, Quality and Terence Dillon aro included in the field. The trio is on the back mark, 4.26, the latter pair being up one on their cup handicap. Lindbergh on the end, will be in great demand, and after his impressive effort at Hamilton, he will have a lot of supporters at this end. Lingfield and Dalmeny will give Tomkinson followers a solid bracket, while Travis Axworthy is just in the position where he can spell trouble to the opposition. Pluto and Harvest Child are sound two-milers, but when the figures are adjusted the order may be Travis Axworthy and Lindbergh. Pukeuri Handicap

Horses that like to carry the weight on their back are given a chance in this ten-furlong go and of the front lot Kid Logan, Black Wattle and Pleasant Wave will have a lot of

fiiends. Sunglcam, if back to form, will be troublesome, and Dilnon, Morning Sun and Roddy are a solid trio. Then comes Great Triumph, who can unwind a great turn of speed and if he gets away smartly—well, good evening everybody. Public fancy will lean toward Great Triumph and Kid Logan. Waitaki Handicap Square-gaited competitors have the course to themselves in this tussle and while the field is not large it is full of possibilities. Admiral Bingen on the front line is speedy, but the last pinch troubles him. He may, however, get further in this society. Victor Bingen will bo a nuisance off the limit, and just behind is the improving Writer, who threatens danger. All Peters and Repute aro handily placed, and those farther back will have a hard task to overhaul the vanguard. The favourites may be Writer and All Peters. Weston Handicap The speed merchants will be harnessed up in this dash and off the limit Exclusive and Great Logan are going to make it hard for anything - behind them. On recent form the former has the best, credentials. Lingfield can go merrily over this course, and Pluto and Logan Hanlon are sure to give a lot of cheek. If reserved, it would be easy for Travis Axworthy, while Harvest Child, Dalmeny, St. Maura and Roi L’Or will all be in line when the box is in sight. Failing a penaltv, Travis Axworthy will be wanted, but m his absence Exclusive and Great Logan will be fancied. Redcastle Handicap There is not a big field carded for this event, but that will not detract from its interest. On the front is Cushla D’Or, who is giving away three seconds to get into this class, and if started she will make things merrv. Sandy Pointer is a big possibility, and Anon and Maurice Dillon are smart pacers. The Sapling winner John Jinks is not set an impossible proposition, Chimer is overdue, and Nelson de Oro is more than useful. When the bells stop ringing the order may be John Jinks (if started), Nelson de Oro and Anon. Dash Handicap A mile in saddle appeals to many, hence the good field in the Dash Handicap. Sylvie Logan and "White Sun are a useful pair on the limit, while on the next line is Bisniurate (a hardy annual) and Return Voyage, a fast improving pacer. Hector’s Own will be dangerous and Great Triumph is nicely placed, but he may earn a penalty in his earlier engagement. Two successes quite recently point to Pearl Logan being a hard one to stop, especially as she is partial to saddle. Logan Hanlon is a brilliant customer, but will have his work cut out from a 2.12 pe~ The fancies may be Pearl Logan and Sylvie Logan.
