DEATH IN COALMINE
ACCIDENT VERDICT RETURNED Press Association INVERCARGILL, Friday. The inquest into the death of Robert John Dixon, a miner, who was killed in the Wairaki coalmine on September 3, was held at Nightcaps today. A son of deceased said he was working with his father on the day of the accident. They picked up their tools at five o’clock. Witness assisted a trucker with a box, and a fall occurred as he moved away. Falling coal struck witness and threw him clear but completely buried his father. In reply to the inspector of mines, witness said the place was timbered with props three to five feet apart. Prior to the fall the props were all sound, and no shots had been fired in the face. A verdict of accidental death, with no blame attachable to anyone, was returned.
