ENGINEER’S DEATH

COMPENSATION SETTLEMENT The death by drowning of an engineer of the steamer Kaipatiki, John Wheeler, who fell into the water when going ashore at Riverhead on the night of January 29 last, was the subject of a compensation settlement on the widow in the Arbitration Court yesterday. Deceased’s employers, Bradney and Binns (Mr. Hore) settled the case out of court by agreeing to pay £650 to the widow, Janet Wheeler. This arrangement was subsequently ratified by the court. Deceased left a family of three sons and three daughters.
