TE AROHA TOPICS

INJURY TO UPOKO QUEEN ARCH GALLOPS WELL (Special to THE SUE 1 ) TE AROHA, Friday. During the week King Win and Art | Gallery have had barrier instruction, I and judging by the manner in which I they acted at the post the education is proving successful. Queen Arch continues to thrive on | her work, and as a matter of fact is j sprinting better in the early stages of her work than previously. This week | she beat Marble King over half a mile iin quite a taking manner. Musket, who was laid aside with a severe cold some weeks ago, will be put into work again this week. East season he showed some pace on the local course, but as the result of his | spell will be backward for some time. ; Grand Arch, in the same stable, is look- ' mg especially well and bright. | Gay Comet is standing up to his work splendidly, and it is quite possible that he may yet add to the fame of the Day Comets as a hurdler. Over the Fence Mr. Irwin Hunt’s Upoko, who was showing pace in his work, was injured in a wire fence last week, and will be unable to resume work for some time. This is unfortunate for both owner and trainer, as it was confidently expected that the gelding, having been well wintered. would prove equal to showing his best card this season. At Dannevirke, and on the first day at Marton. Black Maire did not run up to recent track form, but it is quite probable that he will repay backers before long, as he is now coming down in the weights. Ah Wera was strongly fancied for his first day engagement at Marton, and his third was an improvement

upon his Dannevirke effort. The racing on the trip should do him good. For Avondale As expected, Te Aroha nominated freely for the Avondale meeting, the entrants being:—Art Gallery, King Win, Crown Arch, William of Orange, Trig, Archeen, Marble King, Glenstar, Ah Wera, Glenison, Bert Hinkler, Lucky Alice, Queen Arch, Battle Star and Black Maire. Practically all this lot should be included in the acceptance list. It is understood that Mr. Hines will not persevere with Lady Mestor as a racing proposition. On breeding lines she should be a valuable acquisition to the Mountain View stud, where several good performers have been bred in recent years. The Glen Albyn filly in A. E. Cox’s team is now beginning to show improvement in her track work. She is a bigger-framed filly than her close relative Glenison, and may, therefore, take longer to come to hand. Master Latour, in C. E. Mallowe’s stable, is now building up well and may be ready to compete at Cambridge on Labour Day. Bert Hinkler is ready to carry silk at any time now: Like most of the Quin Abbey horses he has pace. Track Trials The tracks on Thursday were in good galloping order, although not especially fast. Serviceable work was participated in by Wee Prince, Master Latour, Grand Arch, King Lap. the Glen Albyn filly, Sir Russell, Archeen, and Crown Arch. The best gallop of the morning was that of Belle Star and Lucky Alice, over half a mile in 53 4-ss. The latter, who is improving, held her companion safe at the end. Marble King and Queen Arch, full brother and sister, ran half a mile in 54. There was very little difference in the weights carried, but the mare was nearly a length to the good at the post. A similar distance was traversed by Unique and William of Orange, the latter showing up best in 55 1-5. Gay Comet took 56 for half a mile, and The Lamb, who has not been hurried of late, ran the same distance in 54 3-5. Bert Hinkler skipped over the four furlongs in 55 1-5. Back Again High Society, who has been enjoying a short let-up, is again in work at Woodville.
