RATIONALIST PROGRAMME A programme presented last evening in the Majestic Theatre by the New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Rationalism was attended by a big audience. An historical film, “I Will Repay.” and a scientific feature, “Assorted Babies,” were shown. The first film dealt with the French Revolution. The programme included musical numbers by Miss Alma McGruer, SergeantMajor Hallahan and Mr. Rex Tates. Mr. F. A. de la Mare spoke on “The Making of Good Citizens; Science and Religion.” saying that citizenship was linked with rational religion. It consisted of binding life in relaton to general principles. It was only by looking at life as a whole and ordering it to definite ends that coherence entered the art of living. Mr. de la Mare maintained that it was wrong to impose opinion and belief as facts, and said education should provide for the grappling, at first ha.nd, of life’s problems.
