NEW ANAESTHETIC
MEDICAL FIND OF WORLD IMPORTANCE TESTED IN VANCOUVER (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) VANCOUVER, Friday. A medical discovery of importance to the whole world is reported to have been made, in an anaesthetic which becomes effective within 50 seconds. It can be given to persons with the weakest hearts. It has been tested here. Although secrecy is being maintained, it is learned that it is being manufactured by the Eastern United States Medical Company. Quantities have been released throughout the continent. The results are to be tabulated before an announcement is made. The most gratifying feature of the anaesthetic, which is known as sodium amytal, is that the patient remains in a twilight sleep for a period of 36 hours, and can be awakened at any time by the administration of an antidote. There is no retching or other aftermath, as with ocher anaesthetics
