THE BIRDS’ JOY
“Oh, dear, nobody will listen to our singing,” sighed the birds, “and we are sure we do our best.” The birds were all very unhappy because they thought nobody was listening to them. Nobody was, either. The trouble was when the birds went into the town they were shooed away. They were always badly treated in that land. But one day when they were all crj'ing with unhappiness, one suddenly stopped and said: “I know. 'We’ll fly to that hill and make all those sick children happy.” “Listen,” said the sick children. “How wonderful their voices are.” This made the birds happy. Now every year they fly to the hill and give a concert that the children call “The Birds’ Joy.” —Gloria Rawlinson (aged 10).
