GRAND AND LYRIC
FINE PROGRAMMES One of the most natural and entertaining' of the week’s pictures is the latest Fox special. “Mother Knows 13. ;t.” It is now at the Grand and Lyric Theatres, where it seems likely to repeat its success of the Strand Theatre. E d n a Ferber’s story, on which it is based, was a moving account of a mother’s fanatical ambition for her daughter, a keen yet sympathetic exposition of three lives, each tangled in its own problems. John Blystone, the director, has handled it with unusual skill. The players, Louise Dresser as the mother, Madge Bellamy as her daughter, and young Barry Norton as a love-smitten song writer, are happy Selections. At the Grand Theatre only, a second attraction is presented in “The Ringer,” a thrilling melodrama based on the famous play by Edgar Wallace. Annette Benson and Leslie Faber are the stars. At the Lyric Theatre only, the second feature is “Strong Boy,” starring the inimitable Victor McLaglen as a cheery railway porter.
