COST THIEF £1 MORE THAN VALUE Vegetables valued at 1s 8d cost Thomas Roy Hopkins £1 more than their market price at the Police Court this morning. Hopkins was convicted of theft from a shop yesterday, when Mr. Singer appeared for him and attributed his action to the effects of drink. This morning Hopkins appeared for sentence and counsel remarked that, as the man had spent 48 hours in custody, it would meet the case if he were ordered to make restitution. The probation officer had agreed that the man’s action was due to drink. A fine of £1 was imposed and accused was also ordered to make restittuion of Is Bd.
