HAURAKI PLAINS UNION
(From Our Own Correspondent) The Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, at its meeting on Tuesday evening, decided to do its utmost to have a referees’ association re-formed. Since that organisation ceased to function, and while the securing of referees has been left to the clubs, there has been much disagreement and laxity. A meeting will be held for the purpose at Ngatea next Tuesday evening. The position was regarded as serious, but it was mentioned that many explayers would take the whistle if an association was established on a sound basis. It was agreed to submit July 20 to the Thames Rugby Union for a representative match, and if not suitable, a date afterwards which did not clash with Thames Valley Rugby Union’s competitions, which start on Juno 29. Mr. D. Steede, president of the newly - formed Maramarua Club, waited on the union and for affiliation for his club. It was agreed to allow tine junior grade team to take the place of the West Club’s junior team in the competition, and to play the matches missed at the end of the season.
