WARDER FALLS 40 FEET

DROP FROM NEW BRIDGE Press Association RAETIHI, Thursday. While supervising the erection of a new bridge at Makatote viaduct this morning Warder-Instructor Waters, of Waikune Prison, had a remarkable escape from death. He was walking along the beams and missed his footing, falling 40ft. on to the rocks at the bottom of the viaduct. He had to be lifted by means of ropes and was conyeyed to Raetihi. On examination it was found ne bad ribs broken, was severely bruised and was suffering from shock. The injured man is making satisfactory progress.
