CHILD DELINQUENTS

CIVIC LEAGUE OPINION A report of the proceedings at the last meeting of the National Council of Women was read by Mrs. Axford at a meeting of the Civic League last evening. The question of the delinquent child and methods of dealing with the problem was discussed, and papers suggesting reforms were read. The opinion was expressed that New Zealand lagged behind some other countries in its treatment of child offenders, and that the present system was not constructive in its effects. The need for producing responsibility among parents and children was stressed. Xhe meeting decided to write to the Mount Eden Borough Council pointing out that the names of some streets were not placed on signposts. A request is to be made by the league that the boards at each if T of the chief post office should have information directing the startiug places in the city of suburban buses.
