RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM
“LOVE AND THE DEVIL” The picture of a beautiful girl, viewed in the midst of an African jungle, sends Milton Sills back to civilisation to find the woman pictured. It is not the unquestioned beauty of the woman that intrigues him as he traces the girl’s history before finding her, but the steady and amazing progress she has made upward in her career. This is the beginning of the story of “Love and the Devil,” now at the Rialto and Regent, Epsom, Theatres. Sills plays the part of a titled English explorer who is first interested in, then in love with and later furiously jealous of Giovanna, famous prima donna, played by the beautiful Maria Corda, famous Hungarian actress. The story offers the stars many opportunities for fine work and the suspense of the situations, and fervour of their romance as well as the beauty and extent of the African, English and Venetian settings, combine to produce a splendid picture. The Reginald Denny comedy of a boxer’s social failure, entitled “The Night Bird,” is also being shown. ’
