AUCKLANDER’S SUCCESS MISS McGRUER AT NEW PLYMOUTH I-TIGH praise was given Miss Alma McGruer, the young Auckland soprano, when she took the soprano role in “The Creation” at New Plymouth recently. The Taranaki “Daily News” said: “Miss Alma McGruer, of Auckland, made her first public appearance in New Plymouth. It is
to be hoped It will not be her last. Her truly delightful soprano voice had much to do to sing the songs of Gabriel, but it was always inspiring. Miss McGruer undoubtedly possessed a very complete understanding of the inner meanings of her solos and she received many well-deserved ovations, especially for her singing of the brilliant and difficult ‘With Verdure Clad the Fields Appear.* Her pure, easily-produced, musical notes were most effective in the trio work at the end of the second part, when the soloist and chorus were called upon to spread the joyful news that ‘ln All the Lands Resounds the Word.* Miss McGruer was again most successful in her duet with Mr. Watters in the third part.”
