RANGERS AT OTIMAI
Singing Maiden, a Devonport Hanger, sends the following account of the Rangers’ Conference at Otimai: On Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m., 62 Rangers (nine from our company) climbed into the large buses en route for Otimai, arriving at the Guide Home at about 3 o’clock- After the patrols and our duties had been arranged we changed into our camp uniforms. Ours was the House Patrol and, as Otimai was quite tidy, three of us went for a tramp. At night we had a camp fire and sang many songs, the girls retiring at 10 o’clock. In the morning Or. Buckley Turkington. Or. Margaret Knight and Mrs. Tolhurst arrived and the conference began. Reports were read of all that had happened during the year, then Dr. Buckley Turkington spoke to us about Guiding. Mrs. Tolhurst gave us a message from Miss Burgin, who was sick and therefore unable to take the camp. She was replaced by Miss Lusk and Miss Whittaker. Then Or. Margaret Knight told us all about Foxlease. After lunch Or. Buckley Turkington and Mrs. Tolhurst departed, but Or. Margaret Knight remained with us and taught us some Guide songs, leaving During the evening we presented a ‘■up for ambulance work in memory of a ate fellow Ranger and patrol leader
; who had served six years in our com- | panv. She died on October 3. 1928. On Monday six of us went for a hike, leaving at 10 o’clock and returning ; shortly after four, and at half-past six I the same evening we left Otimai for town.
