FUN AT THE FROLICS
CLEM DAWE’S BIRTHDAY “As cheerful as ever” should be the motto of Clem Dawe and his Midnight Frolics Company. They always give a bright and sparkling show that is a pleasure to see and hear, no matter how many times one has been before. With the support of Miss Mona Magnet, Clem Dawe is funnier than ever, and the show is filled with bright sketches, amusing playlets, clever jokes, brilliant dancing and tuneful music. From a bad-tempered and noisy child in a toyshop to a member of a suicide club who has drawn the unlucky number, lie races through a series of sketches and “stunts,” filling in the gap with such things as a burlesque of Harry Lauder, and a demonstration of the difference between a newly-married couple of today and 35 years ago. Miss Mona Magnet appears in many playlets of her own. In an opium den, for instance, she appears at her best, and the audience enjoys her songs and acting tremendously. Gregory Ivanoff plays the violin as pleasantly as ever, and the other favourites, Eric Edgley, Dorothy White, William Perryman and Gertie are all well received. Tomorrow evening, to mark Clem Dawe’s birthday, a speical change of programme will be made and all members of the audience will receive a souvenir to show his appreciation of the reception he has had in Auckland. The show will close finally on Saturday.
