“We Nearly Fought”
CLEMENCEAU’S QUARREL WITH LLOYD GEORGE LIBERAL CHIEF DENOUNCED (United P.A.—-By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Tuesday. The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Express,” in a special interview with M. Clemenceau, asked the veteran statesman what he thought would he the result of the general election in Britain. M. Clemenceau replied: “I think Mr. Baldwin will win” “But what about the women’s vote?” asked the correspondent. M. Clemenceau then asked the correspondent who he thought would win. The journalist replied that he thought Mr. Lloyd George would be the sensation of the election. The eyes of M. Clemenceau hardened: “1 will tell you about this Lloyd George,” he said. "He is unstable and knows not what he wants. But I know what he wants. It is violence.” So saying the speaker rose and put his hands on the neck of the correspondent and shook him. The latter asked: “Is it true that you have quarrelled with Mr. George?” "The Tiger” laughed and said: “Yes, indeed. Once we nearly fought, but President Wilson walked between us and pushed us apart.”
