Mrs. H. D. Caro has returned to Hamilton from Sydney. Mrs. Rishworth, of Cambridge, is visiting friends in Palmerston North. Mrs. Neville McLennon. . of Cape Runaway, who has been visiting Mrs. 11. T. Gillies in Hamilton, has returned to Hawke's Bay. Miss Norma Campbell, of Rotorua, was a recent visitor at New Zealand House, London. Miss Lloyd, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs. Jull in Hamilton. Miss K. S. Brabant, of Cambridge, has received a position at the Tolaga Bay school and will be leaving Hautapu at the end of this term. Miss McCallum, of Victoria, Australia, who has been visiting Mrs. R. Alexted in Te Kawa, is now visiting friends in the Bay of Plenty. Miss Frankish, of Wanganui, who has been the guest of Mrs. H. E. Heywood in Hamilton, returned home on Friday. * * * At the last meeting of the Te Pahu County Women’s Club, Mrs. Ziman, Cambridge, gave a very able leeturette on India, its strange customs and habits. She much amused her hearers with stories of her personal experiences in India. At the conclusion of her interesting talk she was thanked by Mrs. Hills, the president. CAMBRIDGE PARTY On Thursday evening a very bright dance and card party to make money for St. Peter’s Church in Cambridge was held in the Town Hall. Excellent music was played for the dancers by Banfield’s orchestra, and supper provided by the Women’s Guild. Among those present were: Mrs. E A. Hart, Mrs. J. Jones (Sydney), Mrs. O. Thompson. * * * FAREWELL PARTY Miss Hazel and Miss Trissie Bell, who are leaving Paterangi to live in Papatoetoe, were the principal guests at a. very happy party given by Mrs. Norton and Miss May Norton. About 50 young people were present, and they spent a jolly evening with dancing, community singing and comneGtions. The competitions were won by Miss Hazel Bell and Mr. Bert {Spiers. Miss F. farewell presents from their Paterangi friends GIRLS’ CLUB DANCE IN TE AWAMUTU The Parish Hall in Te Awamutu was gaily decorated with masses of autumn chrysanthemums, leaves and streamers for a very enjoyable dance given by the members of the tSt. John’s Girls’ Club on Wednesday evening. PARTY FOR BRIDE-TO-BE A bright little “handkerchief” party was given by Aliss Ruby and Alis*s Bessie Vickery on Wednesday evening, at their home in London Street. The guest of honour was Aliss Yvonne Bryant, who is shortly to be married. Alusic singing and competitions amused the guests. Aliss It. Vickery was wearing a frock of deep cherry georgette, and Aliss B. Vickery was in a georgette frock of deep orchid shade. Hall, Aliss AI. Cowie. Aliss B. Higgott, Aliss F. Jolly and Aliss AI. McKenzie. • * * TIRAU MEETING A meeting was convened in Tirau recently of those interested in the Farmers’ Union. The chairman of the local branch, Air. Dennis, presided, and introduced to those present. Airs. Poison, who has done so much to create enthusiasm in the women’s branch of the union in New Zealand. She outlined the aims of the movement, and at the conclusion of her talk it was unanimously decided to form a branch at Tirau. Airs. John Watson was elected president, Airs. W. H. Allen and Airs. Fitzgerald vice-presidents. Airs. W. Amoore. hon. secretary, and Airs. L. W. Bishop hon. treasurer. m m m CROQUET “AT HOAIE” On Wednesday afternoon the croquet players in Te Awamutu had a very pleasant “At Home” on their lawns to celebrate the conclusion of their season. Progressive croquet and clock golf were played. Airs. C. G. Downes and Airs. Lobes won the prize for best score. Airs. Brown and Mrs. Young won the hidden number prize, and Airs. C. Blundell won the clock golf. After afternoon tea Airs. W. Jeffrey, the president, presented the prizes won during the season. They were: A championship, Airs. Dowds; runner-up, Airs. Davis: A doubles. Airs Dowds and Mrs. Layne: A and B doubles. Airs. Dowds and Mrs. G. Teasdale; runner-up. Airs. C. G. Downes and Airs. J. O’Sullivan; B doubles. Airs. A. A. Reese and Airs. Jeffs.
