PERSONAL —The Waipalii has’ been placed in commission at Auckland and Captain G. B. Hoddinott is in command; his officers are as follow; —Chief, Mr. W. Johnson; second, Mr. N. H. Pearson; third, Mr. D. L. Turner; engineers, chief, Mr. C. W. Pirie; second, Mr. L. W. Williams; third, Mr. W. A. Atkinson; electrician. Mr. G. Wright. Mr. N. McCraig has rejoined the Maunganui as chief engineer after being ashore on holiday leave. The following senior engineers have been appointed to the Maheno:—Chief, Mr. W. W. Houghton; second, Mr. W. A. Scott; third, Mr. G. Earl; fourth, Mr. H. Vartha. Mr. H. G. Whyte has been appointed third engineer of the Kairanga. Mr. H. L. P. Brown has relieved Mr. C. Burgess, chief officer of the Waiotapu for holidays. Mr. C. R. Carlyon is being appointed temporary third officer of the Waiotapu, relieving Mr. L. R. Leeder for holidays. Mr. R. Allan has joined the Kamo as second officer, relieving Mr. I. B. Dymock, who has transferred to the Kiwitea in a similar capacity, relieving Mr. J. H. Ibbotson for instructions. THE OTOKIA. —The Union Company’s oil tanker Otokia left Los Angeles last Friday for Wellington where she is due on May 30. PORT FREMANTLE AT LONDON.— The Comonwealth and Dominion Line motor-ship Port Fremantle, which left Wellington for Rotterdam, London and Hamburg on March 29, is reported to have reached London last Saturday. TOFUA LEAVES APIA. —The Union Company’s Island steamer Tofua left Apia at four o'clock on Friday afternoon on her return trip to Suva and Auckland. She is to leave Suva on Thursday and is due at Auckland next Monday MIDDLESEX AT PANAMA —Reported to have reached Panama last Thursday, the Federal Line steamer Middlesex is en route from New Zealand to London. She was dispatched from Wellington on April 11. KENT LEAVES PAN A M A— Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that .the Federal steamer Kent left Panama last Tuesday for New Zealand ports, en route from Liverpool. She is due at Auckland on May 22. MATAROA AND HERMINiUS. —En route from New Zealand to London, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamers Mataroa and Herminius are reported to have cleared Colon last Friday. The Mataroa was dispatched from Wellington on April 13 and the Herminius from Port Chalmers on April 9. CANADIAN CHALLENGER RETURNING.—The local office of the Canadian •National Steamships advises that the Canadian Challenger, now loading at Wellington, is to leave there for Auckland to-day. She should arrive here on Wednesday to complete loading, and sails on Thursday for New York, Boston and Montreal. LIVERPOOL TO NEW PLYMOUTH— The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Northumberland. which is to leave Liverpool on June S for New Zealand ports, will include New Plymouth among her ports of discharge. She will unload at Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and New Plymouth. CANADIAN TRANSPORTER COMING —The Canadian National steamer Canadian Transporter is reported to have sailed from Halifax for New Zealand last Friday. Her discharging ports are Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland about June 10. HUNTINGDON TO LOAD —The Huntingdon arrived at Bluff at 9 a.m. on Friday from Dunedin, to put out the remainder of her London cargo and t to commence loading. The vessel will leave Bluff to-morrow evening for Lyttelton and Wellington. She is due at Wellington on May 12, and will leave on May 15 for Napier, Gisborne and Auckland. The Huntingdon will sail from Auckland on May 24 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool. CANADIAN BRITISHER ARRIVES— Yesterday morning the Canadian Britisher arrived in the stream at Auckland from Halifax with a cargo of steel from Louisberg and motor-cars, paper and general cargo from Halifax. She is unloading about 1,300 tons for Auckland at Prince’s Wharf, the remainder of the cargo being for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. The vessel sailed from Louisberg on March IS, and Halifax on March 27. Colon was reached on April 6, and Balboa was cleared the following day. She was delayed at Louisberg for three days owing to heavy drift ice and thick weather being reported outside. After leaving Halifax stormy northerly weather was encountered for three days. Afterwards the weather improved and was exceptionally fine on the voyage from Balboa to Auckland. Captain B. W. Lyons is in command, and the following are the officers: Chief, Mr. E. J. Cawsey; second, Mr. C. Hunt; third, Mr. P. W. Spear; chief engineer, Mr. W. Geddie; second, Mr. F McElharon; third, Mr. C. Fenech; fourth, Mr. E. Duncan; wireless operator, Mr. J. R. Discoteau; chief steward, Mr. C. Todhunter. It is hoped to dispatch the Canadian Britisher to-morrow evening for Southera ports.

CAMBRIDGE'S PROGRAMME On completion of her discharge of Liverpool cargo at Port Chalmers, the Federal steamer Cambridge commences loading there and later fills up at Lyttelton. Wanganui roadstead, Wellington, Napier and Auckland. She is due here on May 24 and is scheduled to sail finally from this part on May 29 for New York. Aorangi arrived in the stream at Auckland this morning from Sydney. Later she berthed at the Prince’s Wharf to land passengers and mails and to load cargo for Suva. Honolulu. Victoria and Vancouver.
