TO ADVISE CANADIANS
MR. ARTHUR A. MAILEY’S MISSION NEW AUSTRALIAN TEAM Enjoying a recuperative sea voyage after a sharp illness in Sydney, Mr. Arthur A. Mailey, the Australian cricketer and cartoonist, is a passenger on the Aorangi, which arrived in Auckland this morning. Mr, Mailey intends to ! combine business with pleasure during a holiday in Cafifornia. “T GOT over an attack of appendicitis j -L last week and came out of hos-; pital just in time to catch the ship,” ! he told a Sun man. ; “Yes, it’s a pleasure trip, but I have j a little business in California. Also I have been invited by the Canadians to visit some of the clubs and give what advice I can about cricket. “It will be a pleasure to do this, for I have visited Canada before and have a great liking for Canadians and particularly their cricket players. I will act purely in an honorary capacity.” Mr. Mailey said he was disappointed at the action of the Australian Board of Control in deciding to take a treasurer with the team. “It is quite unnecessary,” he said. “Jt would be far better to have an extra player who was capable of looking after finance. Such a man would be Charlie Macartney, who is a sound man and would he able to assist the manager In every way.”
