PAKURANGA HUNT
MEET AT CLEVEDON SCARCITY OF HARES There was a large attendance of members of the Pakuranga Hunt at the meet held at Clevedon on Saturday afternoon. A hunt breakfast was provided by the residents of the district in the Clevedon public hall, and afternoon tea awaited the return of the huntsmen after the meet. In striking contrast to the conditions prevailing nearer home, the hares were very scarce, and it was some time before a quarry was raised. One was eventually put up in some scrub, and after a short and sharp run it found shelter on the hills.
The next draw lasted for over an hour, and when it was all but decided to return to the hall, the pack located a strong hare, which severely taxed the staying powers of the mounts, only about a dozen completing the run. The quarry was eventually lost well back on the hills. The erratic courses taken by the hares provided the followers with a diversion of obstacles. The principal jumps encountered were high wire fences, and were the means of seeing quite a few empty saddles during the day. No casualties were reported
