N.S.W. COAL DEADLOCK
BRIGHTER PROSPECTS NOW Reed. 9.30 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. The State Treasurer, Mr. B. S. Stevens, has forwarded to the Miners' Federation modified proposals by the Government for an immediate resump tlon of work. The Royal Commission which will be appointed to make an investigation of the industry will complete the report within three months. The scheme includes a Is wage reduction. The prospects for reopening, however, are brighter now than for many weeks past. Mr. McDonald, president of the Northern Colliery Owners, addressed 3,000 miners at Kurri Kurri yesterday. He was given an attentive hear ing. He put the case for the colliery owners and told of dwindling trade. At the conclusion of his address the miners cheered. COAL FROM NEW ZEALAND As a result of the coal stoppage. New South Wales and Victorian con sumers are ordering supplies from New Zealand and England. The second shipment from New Zealand arrived by the Kaitoke yesterday.
