GALE IN AUSTRALIA,—The weather in Sydney at the weekend was bitterly cold. A south-easterly gale thrashed the coast. The movements of smaller vessels were disorganised. CROSS - CHANNEL TRIPS.—The Southern Railway Company has under consideration the inauguration of a flying service across the English Channel to supplement the existing boat service.—British Official Wireless. ICE DELAYS LINER. —The Cunard liner Anconia arrived at Liverpool from New York, via Halifax, Nova Scotia, nearly four days late. She encountered 90 miles of ice. Some of the icebergs were larger and longer than the liner. She covered in one day only 42 miles compared with her normal distance of 343 miles.—A. and N.Z.-P.A. HARBOUR ACCIDENT. —After a regatta in the upper harbour at Sydney the large launch Nimrod, laden with onlookers, fouled a Manly ferry steamer, the Curlcurl. Five of the occupants of the launch, including a woman, were thrown into the water. All were rescued.
