SPREAD AMONG MAORIS Press Association GISBORNE, Tuesday. A serious view of the alarming spread of tuberculosis among the Maoris was taken at a meeting held at the Waiapu Hospital yesterday, when a visit was paid by the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health. Mr. W. Oates, chairman of the board, stated that at the last meeting six fatal cases were reported, and the council wanted to know what could be done to prevent the spread of the disease. Maori parents refused to send affected children to a sanatorium. The Minister said he appreciated the gravity of the situation, and promised to give it careful consideration. He said the Health Department had paid £16,500 last year for hygiene among the Maoris. ____
