IRISH CONCERT
EXCELLENT PROGRAMME The Town Hall was crowded to the doors on Saturday evening, when the grand national concert of Ireland was held in connection with the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Enthusiastic applause greeted every item, and the artists were compelled to return to the stage with encore numbers. Irish airs were sung, the vocal and instrumental numbers being happily chosen, while dancing and a harp solo added variety* to an excellent programme. The mass singing of the combined schools, arranged at the rear of the hall, was extremely effective, the children’s efforts in the grand choruses under the conductorship of Mr. M. Guthrie, were in wonderful harmony. Their numbers included "Hail, Glorious St. Patrick." "The West’s Asleep” (Moffat), and "My Heart’s In Ireland” (Re Roy). The remaining numbers and artists were: Songs. Mr. K. Thomas. "Off to Philadelphia” (Haynes): Miss Jessie Smith. •The Hills of Donegal (Sanderson); Madam Mary Towsey. "She is Far From tire Land” (Lambert); Mrs. T. Monaghan, "The Green Isle of Erin"; Mr. Herbert Richards, "Maire. My Girl' ; duet, Messrs. A. Ripley and E. Thomas, ‘ The Moon Has Raised Her Lamp Above”; quartets, Messrs. Ripley, Richards. McKlvwiin and Thomas, "Eileen Alannah” (Rouch) and "Come Back to Erin”; harp solo. Miss Mavis Grevatt.
