Full of Excuses !
Tale of Woe In Wellington Tenn DEFEATS AT AUCKLAND Wellington is full of disuppointm as a result of the New Zealand ten championship, held during the holid; at Auckland (writes The Sun's W ington correspondent). Several perts published their opinions in sporting columns of the Welling newspapers before the tourney, j they were not at all shy in giving the province the credit for having best players in the Dominion. That idea, though, has proved to entirely wrong, and Wellington had to take a back seat, with the c sequence that the same scribes now busily framing excuses for tl failure to forecast correctly. < writer gives three reasons—or perh it would be better to say that he ini three reasons—for Wellington’s fail The first is that too many players allowed to enter for the championsh which should bo limited in ft with all byes cut out. as “in a championship a bye may be an un advantage.” Secondly, he says t the tournament should be held late the year, as the holding of it dui the holiday season is “another com sion to the duds.” Thirdly, he arg that in view of the uncertainty weather in New Zealand the commi should have the right to reir matches from grass to hard court Such excuses seem to be ill-pis
after the province's defenders L been found wanting. even tho other places than Wellington may also surprised that certain pla; failed.
