According to Sub-Inspector McCarthy, Buscomb, who had been almost drunk at the time, had been unable to. start the car because he was used to the American left-hand drive, being a seaman from the Canadian Traveller. Constable Fowke told the court that, when arrested. Buscomb had explained that he wanted to go for a ride. Buscomb: I had a few drinks yesterday and can Remember nothing of what happened afterwards. The chief steward of the Canadian Traveller gave Buscomb a good character. There was about £l2 due to him in wages and the ship was sailing at noon. Buscomb waa fined £5 and the chief steward was advised by Mr. F. K/ Hunt. S.M., not to let the delinquent ashore for some time.
