AUCKLAND AERO CLUB SEEKS LANDING GROUNDS
The committee of the Auckland Aero Club is keenly alive to the necessity of establishing suitable landing grounds in the province, the lack of which was given considerable prominence during the visit of the Southern Cross airmen. As a guide to farmers and property-holders who would be willing to place an area at the disposal of the club for landing purposes the club has issued the following brief summary of the requirements necessary:— 1. Ground to have an area of about 25 acres, or more if possible. 2. Shape to be square or round; a long narrow field is unsuitable. 3. To be level as possible; slight undulations are not a bar, though better absent. Small pot holes (old tree stumps), etc., very bad. 4 As free from obstructions as possible on the boundaries, i.e., very tall trees, high buildings, telephone or telegraph wires. Any high tension power lines in the vicinity should be expressly mentioned. 5. As close to main road and township as possible. 6. Good drainage valuable feature; ground liable to become boggy in wet weather dangerous. 7. A rough sketch would be appreciated, showing north and south points. Any obstructions mentioned in paragraph 4 should be shown.
