DR. DAVIDSON RETIRES ON GOLDEN WEDDING DAY /Australian and K.Z. Press Association) Seed. Noon. LONDON, Monday. The Archbishop of Canterbury’s resignation of the See of Canterbury takes effect to-day. The Archbishop, who is 81 years old, and has been Primate for 25 years, also celebrates his golden wedding to-day, and the double event is to be marked by the presentation to him and Mrs. Davidson of the tribute to which thousands of people have subscribed. The presentation will be made privately this evening by the Prime Minister and the Archbishop of York, who succeeds Dr. Davidson in the Primacy. The new Archbishop will be enthroned in Canterbury Cathedral ne .t month. The national gift amounted to £16,9.26. To-day was marked by the heaviest mail in the history of Lambeth Palace, letters and telegrams showering upon the retiring prelate from all parts of the world. Dr. Davidson has taken the title of Baron Davidson of Lambeth. Lords Harris and Stamfordham will introduce him at the House of Lords on Wednesday.
