Obituary

MR. R. S. CUNLIFFE Mr. Richard Seddon Cunliffe died at hia home in Fitzherbert Street, Petone, on Saturday. He was born in Greymouth in 1866, and was a nephew of the late Mr. R. J. Seddon. He served his apprenticeship as a printer on the ‘‘Greymouth Star,” after which he came to Wellington and was employed in the Government Printing Office. He was a past-president of the Petone Working Men’s Club and held the office of past-district president in the Druids’ Lodge. He is survived by a widow, one son and one daughter. —P.A. MR. HENRY BENGER A pioneer settler of the Dargaville district, Mr. Henry Benger, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Winter, Te Kopuru, on Saturday afternoon, at the age of 91. He was one of the original settlers of Arapohue. MR. WILLIAM HENRY DUNN Mr. William Henry Dunn, who for many years was a resident of Coromandel, died in the Whitianga Hospital on Saturday at the age of 86. He had had a varied career, and was a pensioner of the United States Government, having served in the American Civil War. He was a member of the Masonic order, being attached to Lodge Coromandel. Members of the lodge will assist in the burial service. MR. WILLIAM DAWSON Mr. William Dawson, who died at his home, Fairfax Road, Epsom, yesterday, at the age of 81, was born in Nottingham, England, being the son of the late Mr. Henry Dawson, a wellknown landscape painter. In 1885 Mr. Dawson came to New Zealand, settling in Auckland. He is survived by one son and two daughters. MRS. M. TUTCHEN The death has occurred at Gisborne of Mrs. Martha Tutchen, one of the pioneer settlers of Poverty Bay, at the age of 95 years. She received a broken hip a fortnight ago, and did not recover from the shock. She arrived in New Zealand 70 years ago, in the ship Evening Star. She went to Gisborne in 1868.
