THE OLD BED TICKING
No doubt the gradual change from the old-time feather bed to the modern mattress has left many households : with an accumulation of more or less worn ticking on hand. I made use of ] mine in the following ways: Aprons For Various Uses First, I made several working : aprons, cutting them straight and i plain, and large enough entirely to cover the dress. While I cannot re- : commend these as possessing any peculiar beauty, they are thick, strong, and fine for kitchen use or for wear when working in the garden. Ornamental Rugs From the remaining ticking I have made some really charming rugs, with some of the faded pieces dyed indigo, ! for borders. I made the strips about half an inch wide, cutting through the centre of the white stripes, where possible. Then, with a stout wooden hook, and using the single crochet stitch, I made round or oblong rugs, as desired. The finished rugs are pretty and durable, and they wash well. We like them for kitchen and i bathroom use.
