MELBA NOT TO SING
NO PERFORMANCE OF MIMI CANNOT BE PERSUADED Dame Nellie Melba has decided not to appear in opera during the present season at His Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne. Many persons have expressed the hope that the diva would make ona more appearance in opera, and that she would again be Mimi in “La Boheme.” The directors of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., announced that they had hoped to persuade Dame Nellie Melba to appear in “La Boheme” before the conclusion of the season. Dame Nellie, however, had expressed her regret that she could not. accede to their invitation, or fulfil the wishes of many who had written in the Press, and to her personally, to sing Mimi once more. In view of Melba’s association with “La Boheme,” the directors have decided not to give a performance of that opera
London is to hear a three-day Jewish musical festival, reports the “Musical Courier.” Eminent Jewish musicians, Sir Landon Ronald, Sir Frederick Co wen, and Sir Alfred Mond, are to take part.
