Hikurangi Coals Firmer
WAIHIS ACTIVE AT 13/-
AN appreciable hardening in the market for Bank of New South Wales scrip was one of this morning’s features on ’Change. The market, generally, remains in good tone.
Most banking scrip meets with a firm demand. The market for N.Z.’s remains steady at yesterday’s improved levels. The insurance section is quiet. A small parcel of N.Z.’s was dealt with at the mid-day call at 42s 6d. Hikurangi Coals showed an improvement at mid-day, buyers for all issues moving up a point or so. The preference scrip is now offered at par. Buyers of Kaiapoi Woollens advanced to 10s at mid-day, with no sellers quoting. Oear Meats are firmly held at 40s 6d, with buyers offering 39s 9d. In mining, Waihis are active, several transactions being put through at 13s.
More were offering at the figure at midday, but buyers eased slightly to 12s 9d. Mt. Lyells continue to register an upward movement and sellers at 36s 6d today were supported by buyers at 355. A firmer tone is registered in the market for Government bonds and stocks. Sellers are hard lo locate. Business at mid-day.—On ’Change: N.Z.
