MAINTENANCE OF MUSEUM

TAKAPUNA OPPOSES BILL “The Auckland Museum costs should come from the Consolidated Fund, as is done with the institution at Wellington,” said Cr. J. W. Hayden at the Takapuna. Borough Council last evening, during discussion on the proposed Museum Bill. This would compel local bodies to contribute a total of £6,000 toward the maintenance of the "War Memorial, the proportion being on a population basis. Takapuna’s share would be about £ 150. “Why should we pay toward the Auckland Museum and for the one at Wellington through our taxes?” asked Cr. Hayden. It was the compulsory clause of the Bill that Cr. A. M. Seaman objected to. He thought that all contributions should be voluntary. In this contention he was supported by Cr. J. GuinThe council confirmed its decision that no donation could be made this year, and determined to oppose the compulsory clauses in the draft.
