EXPLOSION INJURES TWO OF KETCH’S CREW

VESSEL NOT DAMAGED Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. An explosion on the auxiliary ketch Oslo in Bluff Harbour this evening resulted in two of the crew being injured. The men were Herbert Grace, aged 38, a married man, whose face, head and hands were severely burned, and Colin Lee, aged 20, a single man, who received burns on the face. The Oslo was returning from Ruapuke Island, and when nearing Bluff, Grace and Lee went down to the engine room to tighten the clutch. They had hardly started work when a tongue of flame shot round them. A launch was summoned and the injured men were brought ashore. The Oslo was practically undamaged by the explosion, which is at attributed to a back-fire.
