A CHARMED LIFE
TRAM CRUSHED CAR AGAINST POLE DRIVER UNINJURED A resident of Auckland, Mr. R. Hunt, had occasion to congratulate himself upon a miraculous escape from serious injury whoit his motor-car, a light American model, was crushed between a tramcar and a tram pole in Symonds Street shortly after two o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Hunt was proceeding along Lower Symonds Street, near the University buildings, he collided with a tramcar. The tram caught hie front wheel sideways on and pushed the car into a centre pole. Before*thfr motorman could pull the tram up k had squeezed the car between the pofe and the tram, compressing it inio about half its width and stripping it e£ its wheels and side fittings. The wheels rolled off in all directions, and after the tram had passed nothing remained but a badly crlushed body and the remnant* of a hood. Under the circumstances spectators were not a little surprised to see he driver lift the hood from his head and emerge from the debris almost unscratched. “I have a charmed life,” 1 /«? said, as he surveyed the wreckage, with which philosophical utterance eye-witnesses agreed.
