LOVE OF LITERATURE
DARGAVILLE ESSAY COMPETITION T<* encourage the love of literature among the junior readers of the Dargaville Municipal Library. Dr. L. L. Burton, some months ago presented a cup. known as the Douglas and DonBurton Cup, as a prize for an essay competition. The subject was “The book 1 " ke best . of those I have read m the library, giving reasons.” Second prize was donated by Dr. Margaret
Roper, and third by the Borough oil- - frfi Max? The judge appointed was > ir r Stuart Boyd, of Auckland, given her decision for the first \. tition as follows: —Elva Reyno . Only five entries were receiveo. it is expected that more cowp*? will take part in the next comP* . c The judge was struck by 1 _ nt obl< that the library contained so a selection of the world’s and the high level of excelled tained by the competitors in to the essays. The lady al£ *l ve *ied tioned that the competitors r .^ keen interest in literature ana individuality in expressing opinions.
