NAVAL INSPECTION

MINISTERIAL VISIT TO-DAY TRIP NORTH PROJECTED The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. J. Rolleston, is visiting the ships in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy at Auckland to-day prior to the departure of the vessels for the Southern cruise. Mr. Rolleston will then go North on departmental business. Prior to dining on board H.M.S. Dunedin, the Minister inspected the Naval base and went over the ships purely from a departmental standpoint. Coincident with Mr. Rolleston’s visit to Auckland, a ceremonial parade of officers and men from the ships was held this morning, a naval band heading two platoons from H.M.S. Dunedin and one platoon comprising officers from H.M.S. Laburnum and H.M.S. Veronica, in a march through the city to the Auckland Domain. Drill and exercises were executed there, and the parade marched back through Symonds Street and Customs, Street to rejoin the mine sweeper Whakakura. Questions concerning the Justice Department will take Mr. Rolleston North to-morrow morning. He visits Maungaturoto to inquire into the request of the citizens for a new court house, and on the following day he will investigate the old request of the Whangarei people to have a Court session in the Northern town. The return to Auckland will be made on Saturday, and after spending the week-end here, the Minister will go South on Monday evening.
