MUSSOLINI'S WELCOME
LORD MAYOR OF LONDON OFFICIAL VISIT TO ITALY (British Official WirelessJ Reed. 10.50 a.m. RUGBY, Monday. Sir Rowland Blades, Lord Mayor of London, who is paying an official visit to Rome, this morning, laid wreaths on the Royal tombs at the' Pantheon, and on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Lord Mayor aud his party afterwards went in municipal motor-cars to see important excavations at Ostia, the ancient port of Rome. This afternoon Sir Rowland and Lady Blades, their daughters, and the Sheriffs of London, with their wives, were received by Signor Mussolini, Italian Prime Minister, at the Villa Torolonia, the dictator’s summer residence.
On Saturday the party was received at Pisa by the King and Queen of Italy. Entering the Royal motor-cars sent to meet them the members of the party drove to the hunting lodge at San Rossore, where the Royal family is in residence. The Lord Mayor and Sheriffs were received by King Victor Emmanuel, who chatted with them for about an hour. The Queen received Lady Blades, her daughters and the wives of the sheriffs. All the visitors were delighted with their reception. At Turin, Genoa and Pisa the party received warm welcomes.—A. and N.Z.
