FOUND HANGING IN COWSHED
MAORI’S STRANGE DEATH MOTION PICTURE CRAZE (From Our Own Correspondent J OPOTIKL To-day. Opotiki people are at a loss to understand the circumstances in connection with the death of a young Maori found hanging from the rafters of a cowshed. A Maori youth, named Percy Hira Wipaki, aged 17 years, met his death at Paerata Ridge in peculiar circumstances. He had been employed by a farmer named P. J. Jennings, for about 15 months. It appears that Mr. Jennings left the milking shed and went to his house, and on his return some 15 minutes later found the youth hanging from a rope attached to a rafter. There was no noose in the rope,
which was hanging loosely from the native’s chin. Wipaki was well-grown and possessed of a cheerful disposition, and it is not believed that his death was an act of suicide. It is thought possible that he had been copying some motion-picture acting. An inquest will be held on Monday.
