AUSTRALIA’S FAMOUS SIRE GOT HEROIC AND MANFRED By Cabin. — Press Associati***.—Copyright Reed. 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day The thoroughbred sire Valais, by Cicero —Lily of the Valley, is dead. Although heavily insured, his death means the loss of many thousands of pounds to his owners. The “Sydney Morning Herald” says Valais’s stock up to the present season have won £171,970. The record price of 5.500 guineas for a yearling in Australia was paid for one of his colts, from Courante, and another colt by him from Glittering Gold realised 5,000 guineas. His present owners paid 14,000 guineas for Valais.
Among the most notable progeny of Valais were Heroic, Manfred and Valieare, while Saturday’s A.J.C. Epsom Handicap winner, Vaals, also claimed the Cicero horse as his sire.
