CRINOLINES AGAIN—BUT ONE-SIDED

MODERN FASHION WITH ANTIQUE EFFECT Crinolines, in returning to fashion, continually show how d ifferent they are from the crinolines of our grandmothers. A new type, instead of completely hiding the ankles and only just letting the feet peep out, while touching the ground on one side, is quite short on the other, reaching little below the knee. These one-sided crinolines have a very modern look, while still retaining a certain “picture” air. Sometimes the garment has the whalebone stiffening of the crinoline proper, but more often the fullness is produced by many layers of lace over a taffeta foundation. A particularly charming dress of this type, worn by a well-known society girl, was of pale pink taffeta. The crinoline effect was produced by layers of silver lace on one side and at the bottom forming a little train, which was carried looped over her arm while dancing. Mot all one-sided crinoline dresses end in a train: others intended for less formal occasions have the usual hem, ending an inch or two from tlie ground on the long crinoline side.
