PUKEKOHE LAWN TENNIS CLUB

SUCCESSFUL YEAR At the annual meeting of the Pukekohe Tennis Club on Monday night, Mr. H. H. Pattle, presiding, the report stated that the past year had been a very successful one for the club. The membership now stood at 71, an increase of 11. The overdraft had been reduced from £llß to £73. The club’s property had been maintained in good order and the back lines of the courts effectively improved. The club had won both the A and B competitions conducted by the Franklin Lawn Tennis Association, the club’s A team winning the Park Horne Shield and the B team the More-Schlaepfer trophy. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. Pattle; president, Mr. J. W. Johns; vice-president, Mr. M. Campbell; secretary, Mr. W. E. Richards; treasurer, Mr. W. M. S. Hood; committee, Dr. L. J. Forman Bull, and Messrs. H. E. Kissling, A. B. Matthews, and J. Brown; auditor, Mr. E. G. Foster; club captain, Mr. Campbell; vicecaptain, Mr. Pattle; referee, Mr. Matthews ; delegates to Franklin Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. Richards, J. A. Sommerville and L. J. Bayly; refreshment committee, Misses Pleydell, A. Johns and M. Lysnar and Mesdames W. Bayly, L. Bayly, Hatt and McWhirter. It was decided to officially open the courts for the forthcoming season on October 8. It was resolved to hold a tournament at Easter, and to suggest that the Franklin Lawn Tennis Association hold singles championships for the Franklin district in conjunction with the tournament. It was agreed to forward a remit to the association that some token of recognition be provided for each member of the teams winning the association’s A and B competitions. The committe was asked to report on the question of the club acquiring land for additional courts, and to inaugurate a campaign to raise funds to pay off the overdraft. _ J
