MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD

BUILDING ACTIVITIES A full meeting of members of the Mount Roskill Road Board, Mr. E. J. Jones, presiding, dealt with a somewhat extended agenda paper last evening. There are at present 36 buildings in course of erection in the district, and the board passed 16 permits for new buildings, involving an estimated expenditure of £7,600. Mr. T. W. Freeman, of Mount Eden, claimed £75 as cost of repairs to his motor-car, which he alleged was damaged in consequence of a rut in the roadway at May Road. The board unanimously decided to deny any responsibility. Mr. W. G. Lange sought suitable consideration for allowing the board to place a drain through his land, but it was resolved there could be no reduction in his rates for such a purpose. * * * Responding to a request from the Auckland Carirers’ Association, the engineer stated that the board had already adopted the system of affixing house numbers to gate-posts. Mr. R. F. W. Wood asked permission

to add to an existing brick building at the corner of Pah and Mount Albert Roads, without compelling him to set back to the seven feet required by the Town Planning Act. The chairman demurred, but Mr. Tozer, while fully supporting the Act, said its effect would not be far-reaching for some years to come, and it would cause undue hardship if enforced against the applicant, whose proposed addition would simply line up with the existing building. Permission was therefore given.
